 Spring Term 2017

Happy New Year!

After a lovely Christmas break we are all ready for a fresh new term full of exciting new projects.

English - During the first half of the term we will be reading The Great Kapok Tree. This is a great story which will provide us with lots of opportunities for creative writing.

We will also do some work on the Jungle Book to link into our topic and will watch some extracts from the film. (This is a PG film and if you have any concerns about your child watching short clips please do not hesitate to come and let me know).

Maths - We will be looking at a range of mathematical techniques this term as well as building on our problem solving skills.

In Art with Mrs Redwood we will be learning about Henri Rousseau and his work. We will be looking at his techniques and style and then using our new skills to create a whole class piece of art for display.

Our Science topic is forces and magnets and we will be doing lots of experiments.

In Geography we will be learning about Japan and within this, extreme weathers. We will look at volcanoes, earthquakes and hurricanes.

We hope to be able to write and then present our own weather reports. Building on this we will be using laptops and Ipads to find and present information about Japan and Japanese culture.

Our musical theme this term is drumming beats and rhythms and we are going to be making our own in small groups.

Throughout this term in RE we will be learning about signs and symbols in different religions. We will also be having a focus on prayer and thinking about the significance and purpose of prayer.
