Welcome to Walcott Class 3

As promised here is the total process of class 3's reproduction of Henri Rousseau's 'Tiger in the Jungle' on ceramic tile.  The children had enormous fun, and learnt lots of new skills, whilst completing this project.  I think you will agree that they did an amazing job.  We are hoping to have it displayed on our classroom wall as soon as possible.

We are all looking forward to an exciting summer of learning.  The overall theme for this term will be 'The Romans' and this will be incorporated across the curriculum where possible.

English: We will be looking the myths and legends of Romulus and Remus, and writing a newspaper article about the events of their lives.  Children will then look at the skills and creativity needed to write 'bedtime stories'.

Maths:  Ther will be a big push this term to get all children confident with their times tables.  We will also be looking at problem solving skills across the maths curriculum.

RE: The focus this term is Hindu beliefs and lifestyles.  Children will also get the opportunity this term to visit a Hinud temple.

Science:  Our topic is Electricity and light. We will learn about electrical circuits and test a variety of material for conductivity.  They will then use their knew knowledge to build their own game.  We will also be investigating shadows, reflections and light sources.

History:  We will look at many aspects of the Roman period, including buildings, the invasion of Britain, what the Romans dii for us, and the Roman connection to the city of Lincoln.

Art/DT: Children will learn about, and try out a range of traditional crafts used in Roman times, including pottery, mosaic and felting.

I look forward to an exciting term of learning.  Please don’t hesitate to speak to me if you have any questions or concerns.
